Historical

Chrëschtlech Solidaritéit International (CSI) was founded on November 17, 1989 on the initiative of a team of 12 people around Father Robert Brosius who has since been named honorary president. He was followed by Roger Nilles, Bob Kirsch and since 2019 by Patrick de Rond.

CSI Lëtzebuerg was recognized by the Luxembourg government as an NGO on 11 January 1991. Initially, CSI Lëtzebuerg was subordinate to CSI Switzerland, but the Luxembourg branch became independent in 2003 and simultaneously refocused its activities. In March 2010, CSI signed its first framework agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has since co-financed all projects to the tune of 80%.

Since its founding 30 years ago, the organization has implemented a large number of cooperation projects. In the early days, aid was focused solely on the needs of local partners, without emphasizing any specific theme. A significant shift took place in 2014: in order to optimize aid projects, CSI decided to focus its activities on education and training projects for disadvantaged and excluded children and youth.

Since 2009, CSI Lëtzebuerg's work has no longer focused exclusively on developing countries, with the addition of the "Development Education" component to its activities. As part of Development Education (EDEV), students from various Luxembourg primary schools are made aware, in a fun and interactive way, of the living and learning conditions of their peers living in other regions of the world.

ABOUT US

Vision and Mission

CSI Lëtzebuerg's mission is to work towards a more equitable world by making education accessible to all, regardless of religion, gender, origin, or ethnicity, and by improving the quality of teaching. CSI Lëtzebuerg's mission is thus:

“We work together with our partners to provide excluded children and young people with an education that allows them to take their full place in their society!

We therefore support programs and projects which:

✤ provide recognized basic education to excluded children and young people

✤ develop the potential of these children and young people to make them more independent in their society

✤ strengthen the educational skills of supervisors

✤ put in place the necessary infrastructure to carry out these educational projects.

✤ raise awareness among young people from different backgrounds and create spaces for meetings and exchanges »

The desire to move towards a more equitable world is also reflected in our vision:

“We are committed to ensuring that every human being becomes aware of their dignity and that of others, that they can develop their potential and participate in creating a more equitable and united society.”

According to a 2013-2014 UNESCO report, 250 million children worldwide cannot read, write, or calculate, even though 130 million of them attend school. Furthermore, 67 million children do not attend school at all. The goal of guaranteeing an education adapted to every child is therefore far from being achieved.

CSI aims to address this situation by advocating for appropriate education open to all children and young people, covering all aspects of education, whether literacy, vocational training, teacher training or the inclusion of children with disabilities in schools.

For CSI Lëtzebuerg, education is more than a fundamental right. It lays the foundation for an autonomous and responsible society. A good education impacts the entire community and all aspects of human life. All the more reason for CSI to promote it!
